App: GeoKolam (com.arcgx.geokolam), by ArcGX TechLabs.
GeoKolam is a GIS app for mapping and field surveys. We built it so your data stays with you. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. ArcGX TechLabs does not receive any of your data.
Data that stays on your phone
Your projects stay on your phone. They hold maps, drawn features, attributes, photos, videos, audio notes and attached files. GeoKolam does not upload them anywhere. They leave the phone only when you choose to share or export them, for example through the Android share sheet. Then they go to the app or person you pick.
Location
GeoKolam asks for location only when you use a GPS tool:
- showing your position
- adding a vertex at your position
- walk mode
- GPS averaging
- photo points
- the GNSS status screen
Location is used only while the app is open. GeoKolam never asks for background location. Positions you record are saved in your project on the phone, and in the location tags of photos you take. Your location is never sent to ArcGX TechLabs.
Online services
Most of GeoKolam works offline. When you are online, it contacts these services:
| Service | When | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Photon geocoder by komoot (photon.komoot.io) | When you search for a place, or long-press the globe in Earth view | Your search text, and the centre of the map or the point you pressed, to find nearby places. Nothing else is sent, and GeoKolam keeps no search history. |
| Map and imagery servers: OpenFreeMap, VersaTiles, NASA GIBS and Mapterhorn | When an online basemap or Earth view is shown | Requests for map tiles. Like any website, these servers can see your IP address and which map areas are loaded. |
| Any tile server you add yourself (XYZ, WMTS or WMS) | When that layer is shown | Requests for map tiles, as above. |
These services have their own privacy policies. All connections use HTTPS.
Camera, microphone and files
GeoKolam does not use the camera or microphone directly. When you add a photo, video or audio note, the phone's own camera or recorder app opens, and the result is saved in your project. Files you attach come from the Android file picker. GeoKolam has no access to the rest of your files.
Bluetooth
If you connect an external GNSS receiver, GeoKolam connects to the device you choose from your paired devices and reads its position data. It does not scan for other devices.
Backups
Android may back up your GeoKolam settings to your Google account. Projects are not included in cloud backups because they can be large. When you move to a new phone with Android's transfer tool, projects can be copied directly between the phones.
Deleting your data
All data is on your phone. Delete a project in the app, or uninstall GeoKolam to remove everything. There is no data on our servers to delete.
Children
GeoKolam is a professional mapping tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app.
